MIREX reaffirms commitment to combat human trafficking

Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) of the Dominican Republic marked the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on Wednesday with the slogan “Trafficking in Persons is an Organized Crime: Let’s End Exploitation.” The event served to highlight the Dominican government’s multi-sectoral strategies to confront and prevent this global crime.

Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez announced three renewed commitments: enhancing cross-border collaboration to disrupt trafficking networks and their financial flows; reinforcing training for diplomatic and consular personnel to detect and assist victims early; and integrating human rights and gender equality into all public policies to strengthen prevention efforts.

Attorney General Yeni Berenice Reynoso disclosed the creation of a new Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Human Trafficking in Boca Chica, while Vice Minister Opinio Díaz emphasized the launch of the 2025–2028 National Action Plan Against Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling.
