INPOSDOM suspends package shipments to U.S. over tariffs
Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Postal Institute (INPOSDOM) announced the temporary suspension of package shipments to the United States following the entry into force of new U.S. customs regulations. The measure will remain in place until the official protocols for applying tariffs are established and communicated.
According to INPOSDOM, as of August 29, 2025, the U.S. government eliminated the de minimis tariff exemption, meaning that all packages sent to U.S. territory will now be subject to taxes and customs duties, regardless of value. Exceptions include postal shipments of letters and documents, as well as gifts worth up to US$100 sent to family and friends, provided they are clearly identified as “GIFT.”
The suspension applies only to merchandise shipments. INPOSDOM also warned that delivery times could be affected by new inspection processes and stressed the importance of declaring shipments accurately. Users are advised to follow updates through official channels while coordination with U.S. authorities is underway.
