OPRET says structural issue on Metro Line 2C was already identified
Santo Domingo.- OPRET (the Office for the Reorganization of Transport) clarified on Wednesday that a video circulating on social media, showing a person removing part of the covering from a column on Line 2C of the Santo Domingo Metro, depicts a planned technical procedure.
The issue arose when a change in the concrete density of pile PS-069C at station E-2+300 was detected during routine quality assurance tests, including internationally recognized methods like CrossHole Sonic Logging (CSL) and Pile Integrity Test (PIT).
As part of the corrective process, the steel covering was partially removed, as shown in the video, to address the issue. The affected area will be repaired with certified materials that comply with international standards.
OPRET emphasized that these inspections are part of standard preventive maintenance and do not indicate any structural problems or delays in the project’s timeline. The institution reaffirmed that the interventions ensure the infrastructure’s safety and quality, even under extreme loads, and reiterated its commitment to transparency throughout the construction process.
