Leah Francis Campos sworn in as new U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic

Washington, D.C.- Leah Francis Campos has officially been sworn in as the new Ambassador of the United States to the Dominican Republic, marking the start of her diplomatic mission in Santo Domingo. Campos expressed gratitude for her appointment by President Donald J. Trump and confirmation by the U.S. Senate on October 7, 2025, following her nomination in December 2024. In a social media post, she thanked her family, friends, and political supporters, emphasizing her honor in serving as ambassador to a key U.S. partner in the Caribbean.

Her appointment concludes a period during which the U.S. Embassy in the Dominican Republic was led by a Chargé d’Affaires, underscoring renewed U.S. commitment to bilateral relations. A career diplomat and former CIA analyst, Campos is known for her conservative background and experience in foreign service. She is expected to arrive in the country soon to present her credentials to President Luis Abinader.

During her Senate confirmation hearing, Ambassador Campos outlined her main priorities: promoting trade and investment, strengthening security cooperation against drug trafficking and organized crime, addressing irregular migration, and countering the growing influence of China in the region. Her tenure is expected to focus on deepening the strategic partnership between Washington and Santo Domingo through cooperation, security, and shared prosperity.
