Tropical Storm Melissa UPDATE: 9 provinces on Red Alert
Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) has placed 8 provinces and the National District on red alert, increased 13 provinces to yellow alert, and maintained 3 provinces on green alert, due to Tropical Storm Melissa, No. 13 of the 2025 Hurricane Season, which was located approximately 485 kilometers southwest of Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
The storm is moving slowly west/northwest at about 6 km/h and is expected to begin moving northwest to north-northwest. It has maximum sustained winds of approximately 85 km/h with higher gusts and is forecast to gradually strengthen in the coming days.

Authorities recommend that people avoid crossing rivers, streams, and ravines with high water levels in the provinces under alert. Additionally, operators of small and medium-sized, fragile vessels along the Atlantic and Caribbean coasts are advised to remain in port due to strong winds, dangerous waves, heavy rainfall, and thunderstorms.
