Recreational club for senior citizens opens in Santo Domingo

Santo Domingo.- The new recreational club La Casa de Don Carlos was inaugurated on Thursday, offering a vibrant space dedicated to promoting holistic well-being, socialization, and happiness among senior citizens. The initiative seeks to honor the experience and contributions of older generations while providing them with a safe and enriching environment.

According to a press release, the center’s daily program—from Monday to Friday—includes activities that foster recreation, artistic expression, and both physical and emotional health. “More than a club, La Casa de Don Carlos is a tribute to those who have helped build Dominican society,” the statement noted.

Project manager Diego Dos Santos emphasized that the initiative aims to fill the existing gap in recreational options for seniors in the country. “We want our seniors to have a place where they can laugh, learn, and share; where they feel valued and happy,” he said.

The club features board games, painting and crafts workshops, gardening, tai chi sessions, healthy lunches, and excursions around the country. Its facilities include relaxation areas, a music room, and a fully equipped infirmary, ensuring members’ comfort and safety. A team of clinical psychologists and specialized staff provides continuous support, promoting overall well-being that integrates health, community, and emotional fulfillment.

Inspired by the spirit of Don Carlos, a symbol of wisdom and joy, the project invites Dominican families to embrace a vision of aging that celebrates life, dignity, and shared purpose.
