Dominican talent captures two bronzes at WorldSkills

Santiago de Chile.- The Dominican Republic secured a significant victory on the continental stage, as the National Institute of Professional Technical Training (INFOTEP) won two bronze medals at WorldSkills Americas Santiago 2025 in Chile. This achievement highlights the rising quality of the country’s vocational training and technical skill development.

The two medals were earned by young competitors in the culinary field. Frandy Romero, from Higüey, won bronze in the Cooking category. Natacha Batista, representing Santo Domingo, captured her bronze medal in the Pastry and Confectionery area. Both were trained at INFOTEP centers: Romero at the Hotel, Gastronomy, and Pastry School, and Batista at the Metropolitan Regional’s Bakery and Pastry Workshop.

INFOTEP’s Director General, Rafael Santos Badía, affirmed that these achievements reflect the commitment and quality of the institution’s model. He noted that the training is focused on strengthening practical abilities and developing human talent, which ultimately boosts national productivity. The Dominican people, he added, celebrate these results with immense pride.

The Dominican delegation competed against more than 400 peers from 20 countries, showcasing skills across 25 areas of specialization. The team included competitors in diverse fields, such as Cybersecurity, Web Design, and IT Network Administration. The group had strategic backing from allies like Banco Popular and Caribbean Xam.

Adding to the regional success, it was also announced that the Dominican Republic will host the next WorldSkills Americas General Assembly. This recognition underscores INFOTEP’s leadership and the nation’s commitment to technical skills transformation and quality education in the region.
