Heavy rainfall triggers flooding in Samaná
Samaná, DR.- The Civil Defense issued a report this Monday indicating that the rivers of Las Terrenas and the Caño Seco ravine in Samaná have overflowed due to heavy rainfall caused by a trough.
As of the preliminary report released by the organization at 10:00 p.m., the extent of the impact on people and homes remains unknown.
Various State agencies are dispatching brigades to the affected area to provide assistance.
The Emergency Operations Center (COE) announced on Monday afternoon that 18 provinces are under alert due to the effects of the trough across several regions including the northeast, southeast, north, Central mountain range, and the border area.
Among these provinces, Greater Santo Domingo is under a yellow alert, while La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Duarte, San Cristóbal, Espaillat, Santiago, La Altagracia, La Romana, El Seibo, Hermanas Mirabal, María Trinidad Sánchez, Puerto Plata, Hato Mayor, San Pedro de Macorís, Samaná, Sánchez Ramírez, and Monte Plata are also under alert.
