Ministry of Tourism enhances measures to safeguard activities in Puerto Plata

Puerto Plata.- The Northern Regional Office of the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) convened a meeting last Thursday in Puerto Plata with stakeholders in the tourism industry chain to unveil forthcoming measures aimed at bolstering tourism activities along the North Coast.

In a press release, MITUR highlighted the recent growth in tourism and optimistic projections, announcing collaborative efforts with public and private sector entities in Puerto Plata to implement regulations ensuring a high-quality experience for visitors.

Led by Atahualpa Paulino, Regional Director of Tourism for the North, and Edgar González, MITUR’s Director of Businesses and Services, the meeting included taxi drivers, guides, artisans, and other tourism service providers. Inspections of commercial establishments, particularly in the Historic Center of the city, will soon commence to verify current operating licenses. This initiative aims to uphold fair and optimal service standards, thereby maintaining the integrity of Puerto Plata’s tourism value chain.

Support for these measures was demonstrated by provincial governor Claritza Rochtte de Senior, municipal mayor Diomedes García, Colonel Anicasio Guillén Guzmán from the Tourist Police (POLITUR), General Jorge Luis Galán Guerrero from the Northern Region of the National Police, Yokasta Almonte from MITUR’s Puerto Plata office, Birgitt Heinsen from the Puerto Plata Destination Tourism Cluster, and Mileyka Brugal, president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Free Zone of Puerto Plata, among other officials and sector representatives.
