President Abinader coordinated flood recovery efforts during Puerto Plata visit
Puerto Plata.- President Luis Abinader visited Puerto Plata to assess the extensive damage caused by heavy rains and flooding that have disrupted thousands of lives. Accompanied by key officials, including Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza and Social Assistance Plan Director Yadira Henríquez, the president held a meeting at the Governor’s Office with local authorities and relief agencies to outline immediate recovery strategies. These include clearing blocked infrastructure, distributing food supplies, and allocating emergency funds to municipalities for urgent needs.
The president highlighted the extraordinary rainfall in Puerto Plata, equivalent to a year’s worth in just 50 days, which caused landslides and road blockages. He assured residents that government institutions would deploy all necessary resources to restore normalcy, with comprehensive efforts starting December 26. Additionally, Abinader emphasized long-term solutions for historically affected areas such as Sosúa, Cabarete, and Sabaneta de Yásica, pledging expanded social assistance programs.
