Event analyzed the challenges of cruise tourism
Puerto Plata — Nice Dominicana, a company that monitors tourism activity in this destination, held the second Cruise Season Summit, an event that served as a platform for in-depth analysis of the challenges facing cruise tourism and the growth prospects for this activity in the Atlantic Coast.
The first evaluation panel was moderated by Junior García, the general secretary of the local branch of the Dominican Association of Tourism Press (Adompretur). The panel included directors from the Emotions Playa Dorada hotel (Henry Ulloa), the Iberostar hotel (María José Berbel), and the Casa Marina Beach Reef hotel (Samuel Vásquez). José María Sparts and Julio Almonte Nina also participated.
These hoteliers, based on their experience in this field, evaluated the experiences foreign visitors had during their stays at the various hotels.
Additionally, promoting the possibility of extending their stay in Puerto Plata.
A second panel, comprised of Grecia Gómez, Executive Director of the Northern Zone Hotel and Restaurant Association (Ashonorte); Nilson Martínez, Vice President of the city’s Chamber of Commerce and Production; Camilo Brugal, President of the Historic Center Hotel Association; and Ramón Paulino, President of the destination’s Tourism Cluster, raised the need to ensure properly organized traffic, maintain the community’s attractions in optimal condition, and properly supervise tourism service providers.

Cruise tourists spend only a little time in port destinations, so the amount of money they spend is limited. As a previous cruise tourist, I was often persuaded to return to a place I had visited but had limited time to explore or enjoy. This needs to be the objective of Puerto Plata. Offering a perspective that will encourage cruise visitors to come back to spend a longer time in the city or the surrounding beach areas of Sosua or Cabarete.
