Actions coordinated in Puerto Plata to enforce the animal protection law

PUERTO PLATA.– Local and national authorities met at the Puerto Plata Governor’s Office to coordinate concrete actions aimed at strengthening the implementation of Law 248-12, which regulates Animal Protection and Responsible Ownership in the Dominican Republic.

The event, which focused on important initiatives for animal protection and welfare in the district, began with welcoming remarks from the provincial governor of Puerto Plata, Claritza Rochtte Peralta de Senior, to all those present.

The main presentation was given by Judge Roxanna Reyes Acosta, national liaison of the Attorney General’s Office (Public Ministry) for cases of violations of Law 248-12.

Judge Reyes Acosta explained that, in coordination with the General Prosecution Directorate of the Public Ministry and the country’s various prosecutors’ offices, they are giving high priority to implementing the Animal Protection and Responsible Ownership Law.

The event addressed topics such as animal abuse, abandonment, and street overcrowding. It led to the formation of a Provincial Working Group to coordinate awareness-raising actions and campaigns within the framework of Law 248-12.

It was emphasized that during the meeting, the central Government reaffirmed its commitment to a more humane and supportive society, advocating for the eradication of animal abuse, which is also part of the planet’s inhabitants.

Also present at the inter-institutional synergy meeting were the chief prosecutor of Puerto Plata province, Kelmi Dúncan, and the director of the Northern Regional Police, General Jorge Luis Galán Guerrero.

Also participating were the Provincial Director of Health, Héctor Bienvenido Hernández; the commander of the Puerto Plata Air Base, Paratrooper Colonel William Leandro Medina Garnes; as well as other municipal and military authorities and representatives of civil society.
