Milan Inaugurates Garden in Honor of the Mirabal Sisters

Milan.- The Dominican Republic’s Consul General in Milan, Miguel Vásquez Peña, and Municipality 3 President Caterina Antola inaugurated the Hermanas Mirabal Garden, a tribute to the three Mirabal sisters—Patria, Minerva, and María Teresa—who were murdered by the Trujillo dictatorship in 1960.

The ceremony, attended by civic and diplomatic representatives, also honored the victims of the recent Jet Set nightclub fire in Santo Domingo, uniting two national tragedies in a moment of remembrance and solidarity.

The garden serves as a permanent symbol of the Mirabal sisters’ legacy and reinforces diplomatic and cultural ties between Italy and the Dominican Republic. It also offers a space of reflection and pride for the Dominican community in Milan, while preserving the sisters’ legacy as global icons of resistance and justice.
