Ex-Haitian ambassador allegedly provided prostitutes to delegation
Haiti.- Smith Augustin, former Haitian ambassador to the Dominican Republic and current presidential advisor, has been accused of providing sex workers to a Haitian delegation during a 2021 visit to Santo Domingo, according to a report by Haitian media outlet Ayibopost.
In a post on Instagram, Ayibopost alleged that during a visit from March 5 to 7, 2021, some journalists in the Haitian delegation requested prostitutes, and Ambassador Augustin, along with an embassy employee, personally arranged for their delivery at the Fiesta Hotel on March 6. The report claims that Augustin was present with the journalists when the request was made and later fulfilled.
This is not the first time the accusation has surfaced. In October 2024, Ayibopost initially reported the incident. Now, nearly a year later, the outlet has reiterated the allegations.
Smith Augustin, a lawyer and social scientist, presented his diplomatic credentials in October 2020. In addition to his political roles, he has served as a consultant and has published academic work.
