U.S. Southern Command Chief to visit Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- Admiral Alvin Holsey, commander of the U.S. Southern Command, will visit the Dominican Republic from August 7 to 8 to reinforce defense and security cooperation with Dominican authorities. This marks his first official visit since taking command in November 2024.

The visit follows up on diplomatic initiatives set by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio during his February trip. Admiral Holsey is scheduled to meet with Minister of Defense Lieutenant General Carlos Fernández Onofre and other top military officials.

Discussions will center on bolstering the longstanding military partnership between the two nations and addressing shared regional challenges such as drug and human trafficking, transnational crime, and border security.
