Dominican delegation wins Bronze and two mentions at Ibero-American Math Olympiad

Chile.- The Dominican Republic achieved its best-ever performance at the 2025 Ibero-American Mathematics Olympiad (IMO), ranking 14th among 21 countries and earning one bronze medal and two honorable mentions, according to the Ministry of Education (MINERD).

The competition, held in the Araucanía region of Chile, brought together 81 young mathematicians from across Latin America. The Dominican team included students Emil Alejandro Peralta Cabrera (Inmaculada Concepción School), William Gabriel Evertz Adames (Sunrise School), Héctor Manuel Mercedes Ferreras (Divina Pastora School), and Johnny Ho Chen (Los Palmares School), under the coordination of Professor César Abel Santil Glass.

Peralta Cabrera won a bronze medal, while Evertz Adames and Ho Chen earned honorable mentions—marking the Dominican Republic’s strongest result in the history of the event. MINERD noted that this success follows another milestone achieved in July at the International Mathematical Olympiad in Australia, where the country also reached its highest placement.

The ministry announced that the selection process for the 2026 Olympiad teams will begin this month, with details to be released soon. During their visit to Chile, the Dominican students also participated in cultural and recreational activities that fostered friendship and collaboration among the participating nations.
