First Dominican American Distinguished Awards celebrate leadership and legacy in New York
New York.- The inaugural Dominican American Distinguished Awards (DADA) made history within the Dominican community in the United States during a ceremony held on October 29 at the New York City Bar Association, under the theme “Leadership Meets Legacy.” Organized by the Dominican-American Chamber of Commerce (DaChamber), the event honored the contributions of Dominican and Latino leaders in business, culture, and public service.
Presided over by María M. Khury, founder and executive director of DaChamber, the awards recognized individuals who have built lasting legacies and strengthened the connection between the Dominican Republic and its diaspora. U.S. Congressman Adriano Espaillat delivered the keynote address, commending the Chamber for its role in representing the Dominican business community and reaffirming his support for their continued progress.
Among the honorees were Víctor M. Pacheco, president of Arajet; Steven Puig, president of Banco BHD; Mariela Vicini, philanthropist and founder of CEMDOE; and Héctor C. Lora, mayor of Passaic, New Jersey. Other awardees included entrepreneur Héctor Carvajal, the Alberto Cruz Foundation, Katrin Koenig of Delta Vacations, and Jon Thompson and Eurel González, co-founders of Comunidad Connect.
The evening featured artistic performances by Christian Rose, Enriquillo Tejada and Los Clarinetes Mágicos, and others, highlighting Dominican cultural pride. Directed and produced by Jenny Martínez, the event reflected elegance, creativity, and sustainability. Proceeds from the ceremony will fund education, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy programs supported by DaChamber.
The DADA Awards established a new tradition of recognition and unity, celebrating Dominican excellence abroad and inspiring future generations to continue building a legacy of leadership and community empowerment.
