Ambassador Flavio Amaury Rondón represents Dominican Republic at III Ibero-American Writers Meeting

Istanbul, Turkey.- Dr. Flavio Amaury Rondón de Jesús, ambassador of the Dominican Republic to El Salvador, represented the country at the Third Meeting of Ibero-American Writers 2025 held in Istanbul, Turkey. Speaking before an international audience, he emphasized the importance of preserving the essence of the Spanish language and the core values of Hispanic culture. He noted that defending Hispanic heritage honors the past and safeguards the future, as it forms part of the spiritual and humanistic legacy of Spanish-speaking societies.

Presented in a dialogue format and broadcast live to Spain and Latin America, Rondón highlighted the Dominican Republic as one of the nations that most proudly upholds the linguistic legacy of Cervantes and Antonio de Nebrija. He also referenced distinguished Dominican intellectuals—such as Pedro Henríquez Ureña, Tulio Manuel Cestero, Tomás Hernández Franco, Pedro Mir, and Manuel Ruedas—who have enriched the world of literature. During his presentation, he recited several of his poems, including “The Brothel of Memory,” “Why Confess My Sins?” “The Other Self,” “Time,” “More Time,” and “Memories of Paradise,” which received enthusiastic applause.

The event gathered writers from Spain, Turkey, Paraguay, Mexico, Uruguay, Ecuador, and Peru. Organized by the Cervantes Institute and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the meeting aims to promote the highest values of Hispanic culture. Launched in 2023 by the Cervantes Institute in Istanbul and the Embassy of Spain in Türkiye, the initiative brings together Spanish-speaking authors for three days of public activities, supported by the collaboration of multiple Ibero-American embassies.
