Stadium remodeling 70% complete ahead of U-17 World Cup

Santo Domingo.- Carlos Bonilla, Minister of Housing and Buildings, has announced that the remodeling of the stadium is 70% complete, with work expected to finish by late September or early October, just in time for the U-17 World Cup.

Bonilla emphasized the significance of these upgrades for public recreation, sports, and entertainment. The playing field is nearly finished, at 95%, while 70% of the stands have been waterproofed. The third-level offices are 90% complete, with 70% of the sanitary system installed and 50% of the seating in place. Lighting installation is underway, and the medium voltage electrical equipment has already arrived in the country.

Sports Minister Francisco Camacho urged the public to take care of the newly renovated facilities, highlighting that the quality of the improvements will meet Olympic standards.

José P. Monegro, president of the Organizing Committee for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, announced that the first phase of the remodeling will be completed in October. The second phase, which will take between 8 and 12 months, will include upgrades to the Olympic Center and Parque del Este.

The Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium, which seats 24,500 spectators and has 363 VIP seats, will host events such as sprints, jumps, throws, combined events, and soccer during the 2026 Central American Games. The XXV Central American and Caribbean Games will take place from July 24 to August 8, 2026, in the Dominican Republic, featuring over 6,000 athletes and around 100,000 visitors.
