Vladimir Guerrero Jr. secures $28.5M deal with Blue Jays
Toronto, Ontario.- Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has agreed to a $28.5 million contract for the 2025 season, avoiding arbitration, as reported by MLB insider Mark Feinsand. The agreement, yet to be officially confirmed by the team, marks the third-highest arbitration salary in MLB history, trailing Juan Soto’s $31.5 million in 2024 and Shohei Ohtani’s $30 million in 2023.
Guerrero, a four-time All-Star and a cornerstone of Toronto’s lineup, is entering his final season of arbitration eligibility before becoming a free agent. The deal resolves any salary disputes for 2025, although discussions about a potential long-term extension remain unresolved. At 25, Guerrero has been the subject of trade and extension speculation, but he is expected to test free agency after this season.
The Blue Jays also finalized deals with several other players, including Mexican catcher Alejandro Kirk ($4.6 million), outfielder Daulton Varsho ($8.2 million), and right-hander Alek Manoah ($2.2 million). Additional agreements were reached with third baseman Ernie Clement ($1.975 million), right-hander Nick Sandlin ($1.63 million), and right-hander Zach Pop ($900,000), ensuring a stable roster heading into the 2025 season.
