Garrick Higgo crowned new king of the 2025 Corales Puntacana Championship
Punta Cana, La Altagracia.- South African golfer Garrick Higgo claimed an unexpected victory at the Corales Puntacana Championship, earning the title “King of Corales” after a dramatic turn of events. Joel Dahmen, who had led the tournament for three rounds, faltered in the final three holes—known as the “Devil’s Elbow”—with three consecutive bogeys, allowing Higgo, who had already finished at -14, to clinch his second PGA Tour win.
Higgo expressed sympathy for Dahmen during the award ceremony, stating, “I feel for Joel, he’s a great friend. I would’ve preferred to win differently, but that’s golf.” He took home US$720,000 and 300 FedEx Cup points from a US$4 million purse.
The final leaderboard saw a five-way tie for second at -13, including Alejandro Tosti (Argentina), Keith Mitchell, Jeremy Paul, Michael Thorbjornsen, and Dahmen. Dominican golfer Willy Pumarol, the only local player in the tournament, finished tied for 53rd at -1. Other Latin American standouts included Tosti, who tied for second, and Emiliano Grillo, who tied for 41st at -3.
The traditional trophy ceremony took place at the 18th green, with Grupo Puntacana executives and PGA Tour officials in attendance. The event reached a global audience, with 4.8 billion media impressions and 3.4 million viewers in the U.S., showcasing the tournament’s international impact.
