Dominican ports fully operational after Hurricane Melissa

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Port Authority (Apordom) announced that all ports across the country are fully operational and sustained no significant damage following the passage of Hurricane Melissa. Technical inspections and structural assessments carried out at the main cargo, container, and cruise terminals confirmed the stability of port infrastructure and the normal operation of electrical systems and access routes.

Apordom’s executive director, Jean Luis Rodríguez, highlighted that this outcome reflects the institution’s preventive management and commitment to port safety. He explained that emergency protocols were activated before the hurricane’s arrival to protect docks, equipment, vessels, and staff — ensuring a swift return to normal operations.

Rodríguez emphasized that the Port Authority’s progress in modernization and climate resilience has strengthened its ability to maintain uninterrupted maritime activities. Apordom reaffirmed that cargo, coastal shipping, and cruise operations are proceeding normally nationwide, underscoring its dedication to the security, stability, and competitiveness of the Dominican port system.
