Local agencies chase alleged drug plane into Haiti

Santo Domingo. – The Antinarcotics (DNCD) and other agencies Monday night foiled a cocaine airdrop from an aircraft which violated Dominican airspace along the south coast, and forced to detour "deep into Haiti territory."

DNCD president Rolando Rosado revealed that "once radar detected the illegal fligth, the first in many months, the Interdiction System was activated, starting with the takeoff of a Super Tucano airplane and two DNCD aircraft to start the pursuit. He asid the plane was detected circling Beata Island, south of Pedernales, where it turned north toward the Dominican Haitian border. "The drug dealers wer forced to leave the area until reaching Elías Piña, where they penetrated deep into Haitian territory, being the radar’s last coordinate around 35 miles west of the border."

The official added the radar system installed at Key West, Florida detected the illegal flight and relayed to Dominican controls for interdiction. "During the chase two boats of the Navy task force and the DNCD’s Rapid Response Unit were activated.”
