Citing breach of pact, Dominican Republic recalls ambassador in Haiti

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Government on Thursday recalled its ambassador in Haiti, and accused Port-au-Prince of violating the Joint Declaration both nations signed to focus on a dialogue just six days ago.

Acting Foreign Affairs minister Jose Manuel Trullolls announced the decision to recall Rubén Silie just hours after Presidency chief of staff Gustavo Montalvo revealed the Government’s decision not to attend the planned meeting with its Haiti counterpart in Venezuela slated for Saturday.

Montalvo also verbally stated the Dominican Government’s disgust with the alleged violation of the pact.

"At the meeting Caribbean Community (Caricom) held Tuesday in Trinidad and Tobago, the Haitian authorities demonstrated a frank violation of the Joint Declaration, so we are obliged to call our Ambassador in Haiti for consultation to address this issue with the due diligence it deserves," Trullols said.

Silié is expected to return to the country during the next few hours and Commercial attaché Pastor Vasquez will be in charge of the embassy in Port-au-Prince.
