At least 23 injured in new attempt to seize airport in southern Peru

At least 23 people, including an 11-year-old boy, were injured when a group of protesters tried to take over the airport in the southern Peruvian city of Juliaca on Thursday, where 17 people died a month ago in clashes with police. Health sources reported this Friday. The Regional Health Directorate (Diresa) of the Puno region, where Juliaca is located, reported that 9 of the injured remain hospitalized in the “Carlos Monge Medrano” hospital, three of them due to the impact of firearm projectiles (PAF ).

According to the information, which is based on data from the Health Network of the province of San Román, among the people admitted is a minor with the initials B.Q.A. who presents a FAP wound on the left leg. In addition, a 48-year-old woman has a wound to her right hand and a 38-year-old man has a wound to his right leg, in both cases also from gunshots.

Another 19-year-old man remains hospitalized for poisoning caused by tear gas, while the other five people have fractures, traumas, and injuries of various kinds.
