Reporter’s question on corruption irks former President
Santo Domingo.- “How do you pretend to instill confidence on the population that you’re going to fight corruption when you’re accompanied by people who’re discredited among the people” was the question that peeved to president Hipólito Mejía.
The presidential candidate of the opposition PRD party, speaking in the Dialogue for Transparency hosted by the civic movement Citizen Participation, responded a reporter’s question, visibly annoyed, by noting that it was in his Administration that many crimes were taken to court, but were released by the current authorities.
“You should’ve mentioned the other (PLD) so this doesn’t end today. Of those (corrupt) that you mention, many released by the courts, it was I who filed charges against them,” Mejía said.
