Ongoing dilemmas in Dominican-Haitian relations over canal project
Santo Domingo.- Work on the project continues unabated, despite the Organization of American States’ announcement to seek a technical opinion on its viability. The president of the Duartiano Institute expresses concern over Haiti’s tendency to talk but then disregard agreements. There is apprehension about the absence of a reliable interlocutor in Haiti to oversee the pacts.
Some argue for halting the advanced work, while others suggest that studies should have been conducted beforehand. The consensus is that adherence to the Treaty of Peace, Perpetual Friendship, and Arbitration of February 20, 1929, and international law is crucial.
Talks between the Dominican Republic and Haiti resume, following an OAS mission to document the conflict. However, the Haitians rejected the visit, citing the lack of prior consultation with them by the Dominicans.
Just put a dam where the river is born , f- them , very untrustworthy and ungrateful people .
Ungrateful…. Nah f-u. What do we owe you. We will do the same for other rivers we share. Put your dam. You think it’s the only river we share. Stupid people like you are the cause the deterioration of Haiti-Dominican relationship.
Let me see ungrateful -2010 earthquake, pregnant Haitians women giving birth on Dominican side of the island, one our president almost got killed on the Haitian side after giving Haiti a university for free. Haiti NEVER keeps or respect a treaty or accord<untrustworthy. I guess you got a lot big Fs on your report card in school. Again sir argue with me with facts , not stupidity of yours .
Those Dominican are so Ignorant, it’s crazy how ignorant they are.
Yeah, Dominicans are quite “stupid”. That explains the stark contrast in literacy rates between the Dominican Republic (DR) and Haiti, with the DR boasting a literacy rate of 95.17%, while Haiti lags behind at 61%. Dominican’s ignorance is also reflected in their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the year 2021, where the DR recorded a robust 94.24 billion USD, starkly contrasting Haiti’s considerably lower GDP of 20.94 billion USD in the same year. I wish we Dominicans were as smart as Haitians.
