Dominican Republic leader wants ‘only the people’s wellbeing’

Barahona, Dominican Republic. – President Danilo Medina said Thursday he’s not looking to become a leader or his re-election with his Administration’s work and instead the Dominican people’s wellbeing, mostly the poor.

Speaking at groundbreaking for the dam at Monte Grande (southwest), the Head of State said among other things, when he leaves office and walks the streets he wants people to say "thanks president Medina for what you did for the Dominican people."

The new dam and the reconstruction of the hydroelectric facility at Sabana Yegua will cost US$401.0 million.

As to the planned tourism infrastructure for nearby Bahía de Las Aguilas, Medina said he hasn’t forgotten the project, since in his view, would help the southern region develop.

He said he’s aware of the legal issues with the land fraud case, but “that project hasn’t been forgotten.”
