Fest turns to cholera contagion for 21 Venezuelans, Hoy reports

Santo Domingo.- At least 21 Venezuelans who traveled to Dominican Republic the last week contracted cholera, said Venezuela Health minister Eugenia, Sader yesterday, quoted by hoy.com.do.

She stressed that the disease is under control and the patients have been isolated and are being treated. “We have suspicious cases and positive cases of cholera in the country. We want to inform the nation that it must remain calm because all the cases we have are of those who attended a family gathering in Dominican Republic."

Sader said there are at least 21 Venezuelans hospitalized with cholera symptoms, including confirmed and probable cases in clinics in Caracas and 12 infected who are still in Dominican Republic.

The official added that two people who also attended the activity, reportedly a wedding, had later flown to Madrid; one who traveled to Boston and another to Mexico. "All have symptoms and are currently being attended."
