Intrant implements restrictions on cargo transportation for Holy Week safety
Santo Domingo.- The National Institute of Traffic and Land Transportation (Intrant) has announced measures to minimize traffic accident risks during the Holy Week holiday 2024. Cargo transportation circulation is prohibited nationwide, including Restricted Access Zone (ZAR) permits.
Starting from Holy Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 06:00 AM, until Monday, April 1, at 5:00 AM, heavy vehicles will face restrictions. Exempt from this measure are trucks, vans, ambulances, emergency vehicles, and those providing essential services.
The prohibition includes special loads such as trucks with double tails or trailers, oversized or overweight loads. Permits will only be granted to trucks carrying essential products like fuel, water, food, medicines, medical equipment, hospital waste, and other critical items.
Interested parties can obtain permits online through the Intrant website (www.intrant.gob.do) and receive QR-protected permits for inspection.
This measure, in accordance with Law 63-17 and part of the Safe Mobility Plan for Holy Week, warns of sanctions for non-compliance, with fines equivalent to one minimum wage in the decentralized public sector for both vehicle owners and drivers.
To ensure compliance, the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Security (Digesett) and the Directorate of Supervision and Control of Sanctions of the Intrant will oversee and enforce the provision. Additionally, the Intrant advises cargo vehicles not to exceed 70 kilometers per hour on main roads and to adhere to traffic regulations for safer travel during Holy Week.
