Collaboration for education between Dominican Republic and Cuba

Santo Domingo.- The Ministries of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (MESCyT) and Higher Education of Cuba (MES) have signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance educational and scientific development by significantly improving the training of professionals, specialists, and scientists from both countries.

Dr. Franklin García Fermín and Walter Baluja García, heads of both institutions, announced the signing of the document. It includes identifying common interest areas to facilitate information exchange, promote research, academic projects, conferences, symposiums, and joint training initiatives for mutual benefit.

The agreement also outlines student and teaching mobility programs, as well as university scholarship exchanges. It fosters collaboration between Higher Education Institutions (IES) of Cuba and the Dominican Republic, keen on developing educational and scientific specialization programs.

Dr. Franklin García Fermín, the MESCyT minister, emphasized the significance of the memorandum, aligning with the aspirations of José Martí and Generalissimo Máximo Gómez for mutual benefit and respect in enhancing higher education systems.

Dr. Walter Baluja García, the Minister of Higher Education of Cuba, expressed the Cuban government’s satisfaction with the agreement, emphasizing the historical ties, brotherhood, and shared struggles between the two nations.

He stressed the importance of enhancing collaboration in postgraduate studies, science, professional training, and maintaining a spirit of brotherhood to confront life’s challenges.

The memorandum signing ceremony was attended by MESCyT vice ministers José Cancel, Carmen Evarista Matías, Paula Disla, and Maria López Polanco, along with a Cuban delegation led by Ambassador Ángel Arzuaga and Director of International Relations Maria Victoria Villavicencio. Rectors from the University of Havana and other Cuban officials were also present.
