Little rain, heat and Sahara dust: Here’s what the weather will be like today

Santo Domingo – For today, we will continue under the effects of a high pressure system over North Atlantic waters that governs the weather conditions over the country, therefore, a fairly low humidity content is expected in our air mass that will lead to a clear sky and scattered clouds in most provinces, quite hot temperatures and dust from the Sahara desert that will keep the sky with opaque and grayish appearance, said the National Meteorological Office.

Onamet, specified that the precipitations, if they occur, will be in the form of scattered showers which could be observed during the morning hours towards towns in San Pedro de Macorís, San Cristóbal and Greater Santo Domingo, while in the afternoon these precipitations could be accompanied by isolated thunderstorms towards provinces such as: Hato Mayor, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Santiago, Valverde, Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón, Elías Piña and Independencia.

Tomorrow, clear skies and few rains are expected to prevail in most of the provinces, due to the effects of a high pressure system that will continue to significantly limit humidity and, consequently, rainfall accumulations. Only the prevailing wind from the southeast, could move cloudiness occasionally, which would leave some showers and isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon until early evening, in provinces such as: Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón, Santiago, La Vega, Elías Pina and San Juan, due to diurnal warming and the orography of our territory.

Temperatures will continue to be quite hot in the following 48 to 72 hours, due to the effects of the prevailing wind from the southeast and the arrival of Saharan dust particles. The population is advised to drink enough fluids, wear light clothing and not to expose themselves to direct sunlight without proper protection, especially during the period of greatest insolation (11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.).
