Homicide cases are decreasing in 17 provinces, police say

Santo Domingo – The National Police reported this Saturday that a total of 17 provinces and two municipalities have managed to keep the homicide rate per thousand inhabitants in the single digits.

This outstanding improvement in public security is evidenced in the fifty-third weekly crime statistics report issued by the National Police. According to this report, the provinces and municipalities with figures below 10.0 are: Valverde, Dajabón, María Trinidad Sánchez, Hato Mayor, Independencia, Santo Domingo Norte, Santiago, Santiago Rodríguez, Azua, San Juan, San José de Ocoa, Santo Domingo Este, Duarte, Hermanas Mirabal, Monte Plata, Puerto Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, Espaillat and Monseñor Nouel.

In this context, the cumulative homicide rate so far this year, per 100,000 inhabitants, stands at 9.95, while that for the month of July has fallen to 9.27. It is relevant to mention that this is the fifth consecutive time that the rate remains in the single digits, a significant achievement in the fight against crime.

Compared to the month of July 2023, a notable reduction of 1.45 points can be observed, which is equivalent to a percentage decrease of 13.5%. This decrease reflects the positive results of security strategies and the commitment of the authorities to guarantee the protection and well-being of citizens.
