President Abinader submits tax reform bill to National Congress

Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader has submitted a bill to the National Congress, declaring the need for tax reform and calling for the convening of the National Revisory Assembly. The proposal was delivered to Senate President Ricardo de los Santos by the Executive Branch’s legal advisor, Antoliano Peralta.

At a press conference at the National Congress, both parties emphasized that the proposal is a bold move by the government, responding to society’s repeated demands.

The reform has four main objectives:

  1. Ensuring the stability of presidential election rules by preventing future modifications.
  2. Strengthening the constitutional autonomy of the Public Ministry and specializing its functions.
  3. Unifying the timing of presidential, congressional, municipal, and other elective representative elections.
  4. Adjusting the number of representatives in the Chamber of Deputies.

President Abinader views this reform as an unprecedented step in Dominican history, aimed at strengthening democracy and the separation of powers.
