“The situation is unsustainable”: Two months without water in Villa Duarte
Santo Domingo – Residents of the El Pensador sector in Villa Duarte, Santo Domingo East, denounced today, 23 August, that they have not received drinking water for exactly two months. Given this situation, they urgently appealed to the Santo Domingo Aqueduct and Sewerage Corporation (CAASD) to solve the problem.
“From June 23 to today, August 23, we have gone two months without a single drop of water. We are going through an extremely difficult situation,” stated the housewives of the sector, who expressed that desperation has invaded all the residents of El Pensador.
To carry out household chores, neighbors must buy water in tanker trucks. Those with a cistern fill it up to twice a month, using the little money they have earmarked to purchase food.
“The situation is unsustainable. We are ready to protest in the streets if necessary since it is not fair that we suffer water shortages during these months,” those affected indicated.
The housewives pointed out that the situation will worsen with the start of the school year next Monday, as they need water for their children’s toilets. Meanwhile, water bills arrive on time and must be paid despite the lack of supply.
The residents urged the CAASD authorities to solve this problem urgently.
