Powerful explosion destroys building and vehicle in Sosúa

Puerto Plata.- A powerful explosion of unknown origin shook a law office in the El Batey sector of Sosúa early Monday morning, injuring its owner and damaging nearby vehicles. The incident, which occurred around 8:00 a.m., left the community in panic, with residents and passersby fleeing the scene.

The victim, Lisa Ewest, a German-born naturalized Dominican attorney, suffered burns and injuries and was rushed to a health center for treatment. Several bystanders sustained minor injuries from shattered vehicle windows caused by the blast. Emergency response teams, including the National Police, Municipal Fire Department, and 9-1-1 units, quickly arrived to provide assistance and begin investigations.

Initial suspicions pointed to a liquefied gas tank explosion within the office, but authorities later confirmed the cause remains unknown. Attorney Ewest, who specializes in land litigation and is involved in several cases in Puerto Plata’s judicial district, was reportedly working on sensitive legal matters. Investigations are ongoing to determine the origin of the explosion.

DT, you need to get your facts right before stating that Eva Lisa Ewert, was the person inured in the blast. Yes it was her office building, however it was a cleaning lady that was inside, and was found under the rumble after the blast. Lisa Ewest was not on the property.

Almost every explosion on this island is gas related.
