Hipólito Mejía predicts a female president for the Dominican Republic
Santo Domingo.- Former President Hipólito Mejía expressed confidence that the Dominican Republic will eventually elect a female president, dismissing outdated criticisms of women’s participation in politics. Speaking at the “Plastics for Toys” event at the National District Mayor’s Office, Mejía emphasized the importance of women in leadership roles, citing his own history of appointing Milagros Ortiz Bosch as vice president. “I predict there will be a female president, and it will be my daughter, Carolina,” he added, referring to Carolina Mejía, a potential presidential candidate for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
Views on Independent Candidacies
Mejía also commented on the Constitutional Court’s recent ruling legalizing independent candidacies, describing it as unfavorable but acknowledging the need to adapt to the challenges it presents. He attributed the rise of independent candidates to misconceptions about the ease of campaigning but maintained his respect for the court’s decision.
DR is more than ready for a female president, it had had multiple female vice presidents and in all honesty no one thinks the gender of the candidate is that impontant. The main problem is that almost all female candidates are either nepo candidates with no leadership (Carolina, Margarita ect) or old tired candidates with nothing new to offer (Milagros Ortiz, ect).
will never happen
his daughter’s got about the same character as a pigeon, always around and not really doing much except leaving a mess behind.. I do believe there’s going to be a female president, but its going to be someone that the people are drawn to. carolina just doesnt have that in her.
