Edmundo González and Grupo IDEA hold permanent session in the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo.- Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo González and representatives of the Democratic Initiative of Spain and the Americas (IDEA) are in continuous session at the Hotel Embajador in Santo Domingo. This follows an alleged attack on María Corina Machado, a prominent opposition figure in Venezuela.

Since Thursday afternoon, these political leaders have been meeting to address the situation. They issued a statement condemning the attack and calling on the Nicolás Maduro government to release political prisoners. Laura Chinchilla, former president of Costa Rica, noted that González is reassessing his plans in light of recent developments, emphasizing the need to adapt to changing circumstances.

Former Mexican president Vicente Fox, also a member of IDEA, announced that significant statements regarding Venezuela’s crisis would be made from the Dominican Republic on Friday. He stressed the risks posed by the Maduro regime, stating, “If this dictator is capable of targeting María Corina, what more can we expect?” Earlier, González participated in meetings with Dominican President Luis Abinader at the National Palace and engaged with the Venezuelan diaspora in the country.
