Guinness World Records recognizes participants of largest Majarete prepared in Cotuí
Cotuí, DR.- Guinness World Records has officially recognized the creation of the world’s largest Majarete (a traditional Dominican dessert) at the Festur Sánchez Ramírez 2024 fair. The record-breaking Majarete, weighing 858.95 kilos, was prepared at the Hatillo Dam in Cotuí. This achievement marks the Dominican Republic as the first country to hold a Guinness World Record in the gastronomic category.
The event, organized by the Ecotourism Council of Sánchez Ramírez with support from the Special Fund for Agricultural Development (FEDA), featured the collaboration of SMA Group for planning and coordination. Chef Solangel Velázquez, along with 19 other chefs, led the preparation, dedicating over eight hours to crafting the massive dessert. Key sponsors, including Nestlé and the Ministry of Tourism, played a crucial role in making the project a success.
Local authorities and FEDA representatives emphasized the record’s significance beyond gastronomy, viewing it as a tool for promoting tourism, boosting the local economy, and celebrating the cultural identity of Sánchez Ramírez. The event was hailed as a historic achievement, showcasing the power of collaboration and creativity within the Dominican community.
