‘Tense mood’ scraps cross-border market again: Reports

Pedernales, Dominican Republic.- The local cross-border market held Fridays and Mondays has been suspended for the second straight week, on the Haitian authorities’ refusal to allow its citizens to attend, diariolibre.com and eldia.com.do report.

Pedernales mayor Minguito Feliz provided the information and said Haitian authorities hadn’t informed their nationals about the market, for which he affirms was suspended again.

Feliz had also decided to suspend the market last Monday, when he cited a “quite tense mood.”

When situations force the market’s suspension, Haitians find ways to smuggle goods or hold it at Anse-a-Pitre’s public market, but the official says that won’t occur this time.
