CNTU signs U.S. agreement to advance “Zero Scrap Plan 2025”

Santo Domingo.- Williams Pérez Figuereo, president of the National Center of Unified Transporters (CNTU), announced a new agreement with Dominican vehicle exporter Domingo Cedano in the U.S., as part of the ongoing “Zero Scrap Plan 2025.” The two-year deal designates Cedano as the general manager of the initiative across all 50 U.S. states, ensuring that vehicles destined for the Dominican Republic are sold only when accompanied by proof of scrap vehicle removal on Dominican soil.

This agreement supports the country’s efforts to decongest traffic and improve road safety by replacing outdated vehicles with modern ones. Cedano will supply vehicles that meet technical standards, include Carfax reports, and are offered at competitive prices—strictly under the conditions of the Zero Scrap Program. The first batch of vehicles is expected to arrive within 45 days.

The plan includes supervised public shredding of scrap vehicles, cancellation of registrations, and coordination with authorities, with facilities available at CNTU’s office on Highway 6 de Noviembre. Pérez Figuereo highlighted the plan’s broader goals, including environmental cleanup, public safety, and modernization of the transportation system.

The initiative also complements other CNTU-led reforms, such as introducing electric public transportation and establishing a national school transport system. Senate leaders have recently echoed the urgency of removing over 50,000 scrap vehicles that currently contribute to traffic congestion and urban decay.
