Update on the search for Ronaldy Calderón

Jarabacoa — The National Police informs that search, rescue, and investigation work continues in Manabao, Jarabacoa, and surrounding areas in the case of the child Ronaldy Calderón. These actions are headed by the magistrate Olga Diná Llaverías, head of the jurisdiction of Children and Adolescents of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
As part of the process’s follow-up and in compliance with the established protocols, specialized personnel from the Dominican Republic Navy have been integrated.
Likewise, video surveillance cameras and interviews with people linked to the child’s environment are being expanded.
“We want to specify that the local teams have maintained uninterrupted efforts in order to respond to the case,” says the institution.
My cousin disappeared in DR back in 2011 and was never found. Having worked in the defense and law enforcement sectors in the U.S., I know what a capable investigative team looks like (one that’s trained to follow leads with discipline and urgency). When I saw the task force assigned to find my cousin, I knew right away the chances were slim. Most of these DR officers looked either anorexic, pot-bellied, or simply uninterested counting down the hours until they could clock out or head to a bar. The Dominican police force is grossly inadequate, unprofessional, and lacks even the most basic investigative training. My heart goes out to the family of Ronaldy.
