Santo Domingo.- Former Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernández expressed deep sorrow on Saturday over the death of acclaimed Peruvian writer and Nobel laureate Mario Vargas Llosa. Fernández described him as “one of the most distinguished writers of the Latin American literary boom” and praised his immense contributions to global literature.
In a heartfelt message, Fernández lamented the loss of Vargas Llosa’s creative brilliance, calling him a “brilliant, multifaceted intellectual” whose talents spanned short stories, novels, essays, and political thought. As president of FUNGLODE, he emphasized the writer’s influence as a master of the Spanish language and a cultural beacon for Latin America.
Fernández concluded by honoring Vargas Llosa’s enduring legacy and expressing his condolences to the writer’s family: “His legacy will always be an essential reference.
