Dominican Republic agents wound human trafficking suspects

Dajabon, Dominican Republic.- Immigration and Border Security (Cesfront) agents fired shotguns and wounded several human trafficking suspects with pellets Tuesday afternoon, when authorities were attacked with stones in Dajabón’s El Asilo sector.

The agents arrested several Haitians hiding in several houses of the sector, according to Dajabón Cesfront commander Santiago Gomez and deputy prosecutor Freddy Guzman, who led the raids on several homes.

Also arrested and taken to the police precinct for questioning and investigation were several motorists, charged with trafficking of undocumented aliens.

The incident comes in the heels of criticism that the National Plan to Regularize Foreigners has failed, a notion denied Tuesday by Interior and Police deputy minister Jaime Almonte, who said the Government has the border under control.
