Complaints rise to 14 and lawsuits to 18 against Jet Set owners
Santo Domingo.- By the night of Wednesday, April 30, a total of 14 complaints and 18 lawsuits had been filed against the owners of the Jet Set nightclub following the catastrophic collapse of the venue, which claimed the lives of 232 individuals. This incident is now considered one of the most tragic events in Dominican Republic history. Legal actions are being directed to the National Prosecution Directorate, led by Deputy Attorney General Wilson Camacho, and the National District Attorney’s Office, under Prosecutor Rosalba Ramos.
Plaintiffs are demanding compensation amounting to hundreds of millions of pesos, with some filing both civil and criminal actions before legal deadlines expire. One of the most recent lawsuits came from the parents of the wife of ex-MLB player Tony Blanco, who died alongside her partner during the incident.
The individuals named in the complaints include Antonio Espaillat López, Ana Gracia López, Maribel Espaillat de Beras, Evely Espaillat de Aybar, and the company Inversiones E y L, SRL. Also named are Nelson de Jesús Sánchez and Juanita Ordaline del Carmen Brea, the parents of victim Nelffisis Calwany Sánchez Brea. Meanwhile, the Public Prosecutor’s Office continues collecting technical evidence such as structural assessments, business licenses, and eyewitness accounts to determine if there was negligence or safety regulation violations. Authorities have pledged to pursue the investigation with the utmost rigor due to the scale of the tragedy.
