Airport Department and ONESVIE to conduct seismic assessment
Santo Domingo.- The Airport Department (DA) and the National Office of Seismic Assessment and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (ONESVIE) have signed a cooperation agreement to carry out preventive technical evaluations of all buildings within the national airport system.
The agreement, signed by DA Director Víctor Pichardo and ONESVIE head Leonardo Reyes Madera, outlines plans to assess the structural integrity of the DA’s headquarters and extend the evaluations to international and domestic airports, terminals, and heliports throughout the country.
Under the agreement, ONESVIE will conduct geotechnical studies, architectural and structural surveys, and destructive testing—including sampling of slabs, beams, columns, and walls—to evaluate the conditions of existing structures. The DA will provide the logistical and financial support necessary to carry out these assessments, ensuring that airport infrastructure is well-prepared to withstand seismic events and other structural vulnerabilities.
