Chicken shortage hits small producers in Moca

Santo Domingo.- Small and medium-sized poultry producers in Moca are facing a chicken shortage just weeks after a period of overproduction, according to Alfranny Ferreira, a representative of the Committee for the Defense of Medium and Small Chicken Producers. He blames the crisis on poor government planning and has called on President Luis Abinader to implement a coordinated strategy to regulate poultry production cycles.

Ferreira, speaking on El Show del Mediodía, criticized the authorities for repeatedly ignoring requests for dialogue, warning that uncoordinated production creates recurring crises that hurt smaller producers the most.

In response, Pavel Concepción, president of the Dominican Poultry Association (ADA), acknowledged the issue, noting that the shortage is partly due to many small producers choosing not to harvest chickens in recent months to avoid financial losses. He described the current shortage as temporary and linked to the earlier glut that forced many producers to pause operations.
