Tourism Ministry commits to US$6 million for Puerto Plata Cable Car restoration
Puerto Plata.- Tourism Minister David Collado announced that the Dominican government will allocate between US$5 and US$6 million to repair or rebuild the Puerto Plata cable car, which has been closed for over a year. The announcement was made during a key meeting with local authorities, union leaders, and representatives from the Federation of Handicraft and Related Vendors of the Northern Region (FEDANORTE).
Collado also signed an agreement with the Association of Shop Owners and Vendors of the Cable Car, guaranteeing the attraction’s preservation and assuring the public that it will not be privatized, contrary to recent speculation. He emphasized the cable car’s importance to the region’s tourism strategy, especially following Puerto Plata’s record-breaking cruise season, with over 2.5 million visitors expected. He called for unity and cooperation to ensure the attraction’s safe reopening.
For the past 14 months, vendors and business owners have been advocating for the reopening of the cable car, which once carried over 16,000 visitors to the top of Isabel de Torres Mountain, a key tourism landmark in the Atlantic province.

And committed 500 million to the roads of Bavaro…oh sorry…just words I guess.
