San Juan de la Maguana, DR—Members of the 12th Mountaineer Battalion of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD) arrested a sergeant from that institution when he was caught with three undocumented Haitian nationals in an SUV in San Juan de la Maguana.
The enlisted man, identified as Hammer Yoel Lazala D’Oleo, was intercepted at the Guanito Checkpoint while hiding Haitian nationals in a black Changan SUV, license plate G631546, in the back seat and trunk of the vehicle, covered with black plastic covers.
The sergeant was taken into custody, along with the vehicle and the foreign nationals, and transported to the General José María Cabral Fortress (GJMC), ERD, for the corresponding legal purposes.

It may be reasonable to say this sergeant is only the tip of the iceberg of military involved in trafficking. It is very rare a military type is arrested.
