The top 5 places in the US that bring the most tourists to the Dominican Republic

The more than 2.9 million American tourists who visited the Dominican Republic between January 1 and August 9 of this year reside primarily in five states: New York, Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts, which together account for nearly 60% of the total number of visitors from that country.

Specifically, Dominican airports recorded the arrival of 2,967,323 tourists from the United States, of which 74% were of foreign origin and 26% were Dominican, according to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR).

According to Diario Libre, the top five departure points for American tourists are also the five cities with the largest Dominican populations in the United States.

New York tops the list as the main point of departure, with 684,135 visitors residing in that state, which is also the largest settlement of the Dominican diaspora in the United States.

By December 2024, New York had 848,560 residents of Dominican origin, according to the Government’s annual sociodemographic registry of Dominicans abroad.

Florida follows, with 400,664 visitors between January and August, which ranks second in arrivals of American tourists to the Dominican Republic. However, it is the third state with the most significant number of residents of Dominican origin (312,604).

The Sunshine State trades places with New Jersey, which ranks third in terms of tourist arrivals, with 315,650 visitors during the same period, and second in terms of population of Dominican origin nationwide.

Pennsylvania and Massachusetts occupy fourth and fifth place, with 189,431 and 164,883 tourists, respectively. Both states also maintain the same positions in the ranking of those with the largest Dominican population in the U.S., with 191,094 and 183,910 residents.

The remaining American tourists, totaling 1,212,561, arrived in the country from various states, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

The main departure routes remain unchanged from last year, when the Dominican Republic welcomed more than 4.5 million American tourists, according to a Tourism report on visitor arrivals by air.
